Information processing systems aboard Thalassa
The Thalassa is mainly used for fisheries research, physical oceanography and to support underwater systems.
The first step taken by Ifremer's computer experts in building the system was to define a multiservice network which would be a true onboard backbone, supplying 208 access points. The network is available to researchers and operational staff alike, carrying not only usual data from the the vessel's various sensors, but also both digital and analog video recording.
The network is supplied by a set of real time systems designed to gather data from the scientific and technical sensors and fisheries sounders, to pre-process and file these data.
Via interactive terminals, the ship's video graphics broadcasting system can provide all users (researchers or operational staff) with overall monitoring of strategic points shipboard, as well as access to all information required concerning the situation aboard and real
Hardware and software are available to allow pre-processing and filing of data on board.
